This INTRO TO FIREARMS class is designed for those new to firearms, those just looking for their first one or those who need a refresher of the basics. It is taught by our U.S. Conceal Carry Association (USCCA) trainer! Above all else students will learn proper safety while handling firearms.

This class is intended for the novice. Little to no handgun experience.This is  about getting started on the right foot. What exactly are the universal safety rules? Understanding how both a revolver and a semi-automatic handgun work. How to go about selecting a handgun that works for you. Learn how to load a handgun, clear handgun malfunctions, and how ammunition works.

This award-winning introduction to shooting handguns course is designed for anyone who would like to learn safe handling and effective use of firearms. With a combination of classroom and range time, you will begin to learn the basics of handgun operation and ownership. This course is designed for beginners who are new to firearms and are looking for an informative overview of handgun safety and use.

Students will be provided with everything they need for this course. Including ear and eye protection (yours to keep!), a rental .22 lr firearm (you may bring yours if you wish to learn with your own – must be a .22), ammo (.22 LR), targets and classroom materials!

ALL STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE A $25.00 gift card to be used at Thunder Lakes at the completion of the class survey!

For Beginners. Ages 14+

Introduces students to the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for owning and using a pistol safely. Students learn about pistol parts, operation, ammunition, gun safety, pistol shooting fundamentals, and pistol shooting activities. This course is great for beginners to moderate shooters alike.

The class consist of a minimum 6 hours classroom and 2 hours live fire. Students are advised to bring a safe, operable handgun to class and will need 100 rounds of ammunition to use with it. Handguns are available to rent for a $10 fee if no pistol is owned. This class meets the Ohio requirements for application for concealed carry license.* A certificate will be issued after passing the course. (*Indiana does not require a certification to apply for a concealed carry permit.)

Learn about the concepts of reasonable force and deadly force. We will spend time understanding the use-of-force continuum. Be aware of how a prosecutor will evaluate your case if you are involved in a use of force situation. Am I able to defend my home and my property? You will likely have a physical reaction within your own body when involved in a use of force episode. Visual, auditory, and memory distortions are real. What are other defensive options aside from use of force? When you are left with no other choice, what can you expect when the police arrive? Being aware of the financial aftermath.

This class reviews the fundamentals of defensive shooting. While it is NOT an advanced tactical course, participants must have basic pistol skills and be able to shoot independently and follow range commands. Topics in this class include defensive shooting verses       marksmanship. How muscle memory works in your favor or against you. The proper grip and natural shooting platform.  Aligning the muzzle to the target and point/instinctive shooting. The difference between flash sight picture and precise sight alignment.

SINCE THIS IS A SHOOTING CLASS THE THUNDER LAKES RANGE SAFETY WAIVER IS REQUIRED. HEARING AND EYE PROTECTION IS REQUIRED. YOU MUST BRING YOUR OWN FIREARM AND 100 ROUNDS OF AMMUNITION.
